YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 21, NOYAN TAPAN. The Armenian scientists
have lack of information on issues related to the science
reforming and academy. This was mentioned at the February 20
meeting of Vahan Hovhannisian, the Vice-President of the RA
National Assembly, and a number of Armenian scientists.
Lenser Aghalovian, Director of the Mechanics Institute,
Albik Mkrtchian, Director of the Applied Physics Institute,
Konstantin Gharagyozian, Director of the Molecular Physics
Institute, Bagrat Gharibjanian, Director of the Fine Organic
Chemistry Institute, and other academicians were categorically against the
idea of turning the RA National Academy of Sciences into a social
organization, of passing to a one-level scientific system,
which will completely destroy the science and dozens of years
should be needed for its restoration. They also spoke about the
low salary of the scientists that prevents the access of the
young cadres from science, arrangement of production attached to
scientific institutions, clarification of place of different
branches of science in the social system and economy. They
were also against the idea of the science reforming. The
scientists mentioned that the Armenian science doesn't need it
as Armenia has world scientific schools.
According to Aram Shahinian, Academician of the National
Academy of Sciences, the conception of the science reforming
in Armenia is included in the Government Activity 2006 program,
where the problem of the National Academy of Sciences reforming is
not included though for some reasons, the issue of reform
of the National Academy of Sciences was put into
circulation, that caused confusion in the society.
Artsrun Avagian, Dean of the Philological faculty of the
Yerevan State University, proposed making the exams on the
subjects of the Armenian Literature and the History of the
Armenian Nation obligatory for the schools' middle classes, to
include those Armenian writers into curriculum, who were taken out of
the textbooks, particularly Gabriel Sundukian, Perch Proshian,
Stepan Zorian, Hakob Paronian and others.
According to the information given to Noyan Tapan form the
RA NA Public Relations Department, V.Hovhannisian, summarizing
the meeting, mentioned that the development of science should be
part of the national security. According to him, the development
of science in Armenia has no alternative as it is a issue
of national security. V.Hovhannisian thinks that an idea has
matured in the society that we can lose science and decades and
financial big resources should be needed in order to restore it.
So, decisive steps should be taken. The Vice-President of the
National Assembly mentioned that the next meeting with the
scientists will be with an enlarged staff, representatives of
the government will be also invited.
