YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 20, NOYAN TAPAN. Though at present no
cases of bird flu were registered in Armenia among birds and
population, however the country is in dangerous zone. Artashes
Ziroyan, Head of the Bioresources Management Agency of RA
Ministry of Nature Protection, informed about this at the
conference on the theme "Prevention of Bird Flu in Armenia"
organized by the American University of Armenia (AUA) on
February 20. He mentioned that a number of events are being
implemented in order to prevent the penetration and the
spreading of that disease into the country.
According to A.Ziroyan, on the whole 351 different species
of birds are registered in the republic, 100-120 of which are
settled. In the future the migration of more than 200 species of
wild birds of passage into Armenia is expected. It was also
mentioned that there are nearly 5.5 mln of domestic birds in
Armenia, nearly 3mln of which are kept at poultry factories.
