NUMBER OF REGISTERED CRIMES DECREASES BY 12% IN ARMENIA IN
2005

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 10, NOYAN TAPAN. 8875 cases of crime were
registered in Armenia in 2005 against 10083 in the previous year
and the decrease made 12% or 1208 cases. Hovhannes Hunanian, the
Deputy Head of the RA Police, mentioned about this at the
February 10 press conference. The number of crimes falling to 10
thousand inhabitants made 27.6 in the republic in 2005 (31.4 in
2004).
1.5% of the crimes registered during the last year falls to
especially grave crimes (in 2004 1.7%), and the 35.3% to grave
crimes (in 2004 34.6%). The number of the grave crimes decreased
by 10.3%, from 3487 cases to 3129 cases, and the especially
grave ones by 23.7%, from 177 cases to 135.
Among the crimes against the human beings a decrease was
registered in cases of murder and attempted murder, from 114 to
79, in intentionally damaging somebody's health, from 1152 to
725 cases (including the serious damaging somebody's health,
from 205 to 199). At the same time in the mentioned group an
increase was registered only in the crimes against the sexual
inviolability, from 48 to 51, including the cases of raping and
rape attempt, from 12 to 23.
Among the assaults done against the property an decrease
was registered in cases of robbery from 2791 to 2463, banditry
from 129 to 108, fraud from 497 to 466, appropriation or waste
from 130 to 123, and hijacking transport means from 127 to 96.
In this group an increase was registered only in cases of
robbery, from 114 to 161.
218 cases of crimes against the economic activity were
disclosed in 2005 (265 cases in 2004), including 8 cases of
bribary (4 cases in 2004) and 60 cases of counterfeit (45
cases in 2004).
H.Hunanian mentioned that for the first time during the
last 9 years a decreasing tendency of the main indices
defining the crimes of the juveniles was registered. The number
of the juvenile criminals called to criminal liability
decreased by 27 or 7% (from 383 to 356) and the number of the
crimes committed by them by 46 or 8.3% (from 557 to 511).
