NUMBER OF WOMEN COMMITING CRIMES DECLINES IN ARMENIA IN
FIRST NINE MONTHS OF 2005

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 8, NOYAN TAPAN. In the first 9 months of
2005, the percentage of women in the number of those subjected
to criminal liability increased to 8.3% against 7.7% in the same
period of 2004. Announcing it at the November 7 press
conference, Deputy Chief of RA Police Major-General Hovhannes
Hunanian at the same time noted that the number of women who
committed crimes during the indicated period declined by 4.5% -
from 379 to 362. It was announced that over the last two years,
police succeeded in preventing certain negative trends regarding
juvenile delinquency and stabilizing the situation. Thus, there
was some decline both in the number of minors subjected to
criminal liability (from 295 to 263) and the number of juvenile
crimes (from 427 to 371)
461 crimes connected to narcotic drugs were discovered in
the first 9 months of 2005 against 339 crimes in the same period
of 2004, with the increase making 122 cases or 36%. 275 cases or
59.6% of all the discovered cases were those of drug
trafficking, whose number decreased by 35 on the same months of
last year (310 such crimes). 213 crimes against economic
activity were revealed in the indicated period (213 crimes over
the first 9 months of 2004).
According to H. Hunanian, they attach special importance to
revealing cases of state or public property embezzlement. 57
such crimes were disclosed in the 9 months of 2005, which is
more by 9.6% than during the same period of 2004 (52).
