Umat Kumas says there was no Armenian genocide (letter, April 20).
Doesn't he know that the International Association of Genocide
Scholars, a U.N. study (1985), 40 U.S. states (including Mass.), the
European Union Parliament (1987), a U.S. filing with the International
Court of Justice (1951), countries such as Canada and France, and the
scholar who coined the word "genocide," Raphael Lemkin, all say that
Turkey committed genocide against Armenians in the 1915 era?
Perhaps Mr. Kumas has been listening to the national Anti-Defamation
League, which has long conspired with Turkey to deny the Armenian
genocide and defeat Armenian genocide resolutions in Congress. The
ADL's lack of moral credibility has led Arlington, Bedford, Belmont,
Needham, Newton, Westwood, several other cities, and the Mass.
Municipal Assoc. to toss out (www.NoPlaceForDenial.com) the ADL's
alleged anti-bias program "No Place for Hate."
Like a recurring nightmare, the ADL is back. Clear Channel Corp. in
Stoneham is giving the ADL free space on 100 billboards to promote its
"anti-bullying" program. The real bullies are the ADL and Turkey,
which bullies its ethnic and religious minorities, journalists, and
dissidents.
The ADL anti-bullying program has the same problem as "No Place for
Hate:" its sponsor is hypocritical and lacks credibility. Students and
parents deserve better.
Clear Channel should replace the ADL logo on the billboards with names
of other Massachusetts anti-bullying programs.
And why does the ADL get 100 free billboards while the PeaceofArt.org
group must pay Clear Channel for two billboards about the Armenian
genocide?
Does Clear Channel have the same double standards as the national ADL?
