Armenians mark General Andranik’s 147th birth anniversary

Mayor of Yerevan Taron Margaryan visited the the military pantheon Yerablur and paid homage to the Armenian legendary General Andranik Ozanyan on the occasion of his 147th birth anniversary. For this purpose, a liturgy was offered at Armenian churches for all those fallen in liberation struggle. Yerevan Mayor further laid flowers at the graves of Sparapet Vazgen Sargsyan and founder of the Republican Party of Armenian (RPA) Ashot Navasardyan. Ozanian was born in 1865 in Shabin Karahisar (district of present-day Giresun, Turkey). The Armenian people revere him as a national hero. Songs, novels, and poetry were written about him. General Andranik died in 1927 in Fresno, California. He was buried at the Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris. And after Armenia’s independence, his remains were brought to the capital Yerevan, where they now rest at the Yerablur Military Pantheon.
