Model NATO Youth Summit 2012 (MoNYS), the largest simulation of NATO’s decision-making process in the world, is pleased to announce that the selection process for the 220 participants who will attend the event this year has come to an end with great success. Between February 6th and March 31st, almost 900 students of all nationalities expressed their will to participate in the Summit, by sending their application for one of the available positions. The organizers have made every effort to select the best candidates and can proudly announce that this year MoNYS’s participants form a heterogeneous group of smart, well-trained and very enthusiastic students, coming from 6 continents and representing the best universities of every country. They have different educational background and experience - political science, international relations, peace and conflict management, law and diplomacy, journalism and communication, social sciences, business economics - but they all have proven that they have the qualities of young world leaders. During the Summit, they will fulfill the roles of 195 NATO delegates, 13 chairpersons and 12 journalists, debating and reporting on major topics of international importance. The selected participants are now embarking on a new experience. “I think about all the great things that are going to happen there: young people, new ideas, new places, conversation, the chance to make a difference. I think it is an amazing opportunity for all of us and we should really be proud to be part of it”, says Alexandra Preda, from Romania. For Sam Vlessing, from Canada, MoNYS is a dream come true: “On of the most influential contemporary international organizations is opening its doors to let the leaders of tomorrow try and solve real world problems. I cannot ask for more”, he says. Belinda McEniery, from Australia, backs up their opinions: “The Summit will give me the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas, cultures and experiences with over 200 international university students, many of whom will go on from MoNYS to become the next generation of global decision makers.” Model NATO Youth Summit is the largest NATO simulation in the world and the only one of its kind in Europe, to be held in Brussels, Belgium, between the 8th and the 13th of July 2012. The main goal of MoNYS is to inform and educate on the mission and main activities of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, while creating a framework of democratic expression, where participants will develop their negotiation, communication and diplomatic skills in an intercultural environment. MoNYS 2012 is developed by an international team of 28 young people from 12 countries, with the support of major international institutions, such as Ministère de la Région Bruxelles Capitale, Atlantic Treaty Association, Université Libre de Bruxelles, STAR Alliance and IBIS Hotels. MoNYS organizing team wants to take this chance to congratulate all applicants and thank them once again for their motivation and interest towards this event. “We have been impressed by your applications and our only regret is that we are not able to choose all of you”, says George-Mihael Manea, Project Manager MoNYS 2012.
