BUENOS AIRES, 14 JUNE, NOYAN TAPAN: The Buenos Aires legislature unanimously voted for proclaiming the Armenian mother temple of St. Gregory the Illuminator a historical monument. The temple, which was anointed in 1938, will be included in the list of Argentina’s significant cultural values. Prelate of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Argentina, Archbishop Gisak Muradian told Radio “Azatutyun” that it [the decision] is important for Armenians in order for the community to be able to have its voice heard.” “Turning the mother temple into a historical monument places the temple in the place it deserves to be,” he added. The radio station reminds that weeks ago, upon the request of the Argentinean Armenian community, the authorities of Buenos Aires annulled the decision on installing the bust of founder of modern-day Turkey Mustafa Kemal.
