YEREVAN, 18 MAY, NOYAN TAPAN: Due to reconstruction of
Armenia's National Assembly sessions hall, the May 17 session of
the spring sitting's four-day sessions was held at the
government sessions hall where, from 1990-1993, Armenia's first
parliament, the Supreme Council, convened its sessions before
moving to the building that was allocated to the National
Assembly.
As independent deputies of the "Republican Party of
Armenia" faction and former members of the Supreme Council Gagik
Abrahamyan and Valodya Badalyan told "NT", returning to the
government sessions hall after 17 years brought back great
emotions and interesting memories.
"There are many memories, including the election of
independent Armenia's parliamentary chairman, the adoption of
Armenia's Declaration of Independence, the confirmation of an
independence referendum and finally, our younger years," said G.
Abrahamyan.
"In those years, people were enthusiastic. But today I felt
that some complained about the poor conditions. I think it is
due to the difference of time, but there was more enthusiasm,"
said former SC deputy, current permanent representative of the
RA President to the National Assembly Garnik Isagulyan.
Isagulyan also regretted to mention that the deputies of
the Supreme Council are no longer in politics and expressed hope
that there would be a chance to see the former deputies during
the parliament's upcoming 20th anniversary.
