On December 16 Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Edward Nalbandian received the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs- Ambassador Igor Popov, Ambassador Jacques Faure, Ambassador James Warlick and the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Ambassador Andrzej Kasprzyk.
In the context of the summit meeting of the Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan in Vienna on November 19 and the negotiations of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan in Kiev on December 4, the sides continued discussions about moving forward the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process.
The Foreign Minister of Armenia drew the attention of the Co-Chairs on the death of the Armenian soldier as a result of the shooting from the Azerbaijani side which occurred on the border zone of Tavush marz on December 14.
The Minister stressed that despite the consistent calls of the OSCE Co-Chair Countries for consolidating the cease fire regime, many soldiers as well as civilians are becoming victims of continuous ceasefire violations by Azerbaijan, civilian objects are targeted on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and on the line of contact between Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan. The Armenian Foreign Minister underlined that such provocations undermine the efforts of the Co-Chairs and Armenia towards a peaceful resolution.
During the talk the possibility of organizing a meeting between the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan in the beginning of the following year was touched upon.
