Teach For Armenia and its supporters held their “Dear Teacher” event hosted by the Tumo Center for Creative Technologies. The event, part of an ongoing “Teacher Appreciation” campaign that seeks to bolster the stature of the teaching profession, showcased the favorite teachers of a diverse field of students and former students. In doing so, the campaign aims to remind the public of the educator’s important and influential role in our society.
Attending the event were teachers, the students honoring them, and organizations and companies supporting the Teach For Armenia initiative. The evening provided a unique opportunity for teachers and their former students to connect with one another, and memorialize this bond through photos and testimonials. Singing the teacher’s praises, and welcoming the guests, was the children’s choir representing the Orran NGO.
It should be noted that the students were joined in their words and gestures of appreciation by media personality Gohar Gasparyan, chess Grandmaster Levon Aronian, VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian, jazz pianist Tigran Hamasyan, and others whose professional and personal development was unforgettably linked to the remarkable role models they had in their teachers.
“We share the sense of responsibility attached to the teaching profession. It is a responsibility based on knowledge and vocational skills, as well as the values and norms that teachers transmit to their students,” said Larisa Ryan, Teach For Armenia founder and CEO.
“Over the years, you come to realize how inestimable our teachers’ influence was on our life and the path we choose to pursue, on our success, our perception of life and development, ability to appreciate the beauty of serving our community, our ability to sacrifice and withstand the difficulties, on both our moral and rational decisions. I greatly admire my teachers. A teachers advice has a lifelong influence on us, and I encourage our youth to take advantage of every interaction they have with their teacher,” – says VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian.
Teach For Armenia is a social enterprise that recruits and trains high-achieving young graduates and professionals to teach for two years in schools in order to expand educational opportunities for children.
Teach For Armenia has been an active partner with a number of foundations, organizations, and individuals for whom the quality education of every child is a non-negotiable imperative. General partners for the Teach For Armenia initiative are the Tumo Center for Creative Technologies, and the Armenian General Benevolent Union.
The “Dear Teacher” event was supported and sponsored by the Tumo Center for Creative Technologies, VivaCell-MTS, Deem Communications, Jermuk International Pepsi-Cola Bottler Armenia, Golden Grape Armas, and La Fourchette.
