The Akian Gallery of the American University of Armenia hosted a press conference dedicated to the Global Award of the President of RA for Outstanding Contribution to Humanity through IT.
 
Speakers at the press conference Vigen Sargsyan (Chief of Staff of the President of Armenia), Hovik Musaelyan (Chairman of the Executive Board of the GIT Award), Ralph Yirikian (VivaCell-MTS General Manager), Tony Moroyan (President of Viasphere International) and Armen Der-Kiureghian (President of the American University of Armenia) reflected upon the mission of the award, the achievements of the previous five years and the further develop of the ICT sphere in Armenia.
 
The Global Award of the President of Armenia for Outstanding Contribution to Humanity through IT was established on July 6, 2009, by the decree of the President of Armenia with the aim of supporting the development of this sphere. The award is granted on an annual basis to individuals, which have made an exceptional contribution in the spheres of technologies, education, organization, finances, etc., and whose internationally acclaimed efforts result in serious development of the information technologies sphere.
 
In 2010 former chairman of the board of Intel Corporation Craig Barrett was the first to receive the Global Award of the President of RA for Outstanding Contribution to Humanity through IT. Co-Founder of Apple Computers, Inc. Steve Wozniak is the second Laureate of the Global IT Award. Chairman Emeritus of Sinaptics, Inc. Federico Faggin is the third Laureate of the Award. The fourth Global IT Award was handed to the president of the Semiconductor Industry Association, Society of Semiconductor Industry Specialists, and Techno Vision Company, retired CEO of Hitachi Electronic Devices Group and Senior Executive Managing Director of Hitachi Tsugio Makimoto. 
 
Last year the Chief Development Officer at Cisco Systems, Inc. Mario Mazzola visited Armenia to receive the Global IT Award of the President of RA. A few days ago in a letter addressed to the President of RA, Mario Mazzola has expressed willingness to donate AMD 1 million to the American University of Armenia.
