YEREVAN, OCTOBER 8, NOYAN TAPAN. At the October 8 sitting, the Armenian government approved the draft decision on the establishment of the Gyumri Economic Development Fund. Minister of Economy Nerses Yeritsian said the draft aims to concentrate the resources necessary for the implementation of the project of Gyumri's technopark and technocity and to set up a team for management of the indicated structures. Speaking about the creation of a free economic zone in Gyumri, Prime Minister Tigran Sarsgyan said that such a zone should be formed in Meghri - in addition to Gyumri and Zvartnots Airport. In his words, this necessity arose during the discussion of the Meghri hydropower plant construction project when the issue of introducing a special regime there was raised, so the creation of a free economic zone will be the best solution to the problem. He said the draft decision on the creation of a free economic zone in Meghri must be submitted to the government for discussion within a month.
