YEREVAN, OCTOBER 2, NOYAN TAPAN. The RA NA ARFD and
Zharangutiun (Heritage) factions released a joint statement on
the initiated protocols on normalization of Armenian-Turkish
relations. Below is the complete text of the statement signed by
Vahan Hovhannisian on behalf of Dashnaktsutiun and by Styopa
Safarian on behalf of Zharangutiun:
"Being for establishment of diplomatic relations between
Armenia and Turkey and their further normal development, first
of all lifting of Armenia's blockade by Turkey, we, National
Assembly opposition factions declare that the following points
should be excluded from protocols on establishment of diplomatic
relations between Armenia and Turkey, which regard:
- Mutual recognition of the existing, so-called "common border"
as with such a recognition Armenia is forced to recognize the illegal
and anti-Armenian treaties signed earlier.
- Establishment of an intergovernmental subcommittee for
studying historic documents and archives as it will question the
fact of the Armenian Genocide planned and committed
by Ottoman Turkey at the state level and many countries' and
international organizations' condemning the fact as genocide
committed to mankind.
Meanwhile we confirm that Armenian-Turkish relations can
hinder Nagorno Karabakh Republic's international recognition, as
well as stipulation of borders and territorial integrity
proclaimed by the Artsakh Republic Constitution and legislation.
We call all Armenians for consolidating around this
important political and historic issue and thus contributing to
realization of basic principles of Armenian statehood and
all-national goals by ensuring homeland's strengthening."
