YEREVAN, JUNE 10, NOYAN TAPAN. By not making real
investments, Geopromining company - the owner of Agarak Copper
and Molybdenum Enterprise has brought the enterprise to the
verge of ruin. Member of "Heritage" faction Anahit Bakhshian
said at the National Assembly on June 9 that the employees of
the enterprise have sent a complaint to their faction, in which
they note that 500 employees are currently idle, while another
550 have been dismissed from their jobs. Whereas, as early as
June 2008 the company's management received a 78 million-dollar
credit from VTB Bank for development of the enterprise.
The NA deputy said that after negotiations with the
management of the enterprise in November 2008, the minister of
energy declared that the management had promised to refrain from
"taking sharp steps against employees". An agreement had been
reached that the management's decisions will take into account
the interests of both the employees and enterprise. "By making
unbalanced decisions, the management of Agarak Copper and
Molybdenum Enterprise did not take the interests of employees
into account, as well as it broke its promises to the
government. This example shows the danger when, by selling 100%
of an enterprise to a foreign company, the government loses the
opportunity to influence such companies and protect the rights
and interests of citizens," A. Bakhshian said. According to her,
their faction sent a letter to the prime minister on June 3,
informing him about all this and asking him to discuss the issue
at the government, with the participation of NA deputies and the
letter's authors.
