YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 30, NOYAN TAPAN. More than 70 print
media financed from the state budget either are not released at
all or come out once or twice a year on the occasion of
elections or birthdays of heads of local self-government bodies,
member of "Prosperous Armenia" faction of the RA National
Assembly Naira Zohrabian said at the National Assembly on
September 30. According to her, the matter concerns first of all
regional newspapers, whereas, under the law, the mass media
receiving state assistance shall be released at least every
month.
She said that 135.3 million drams was allocated by this
year's budget for book publishing done with state assistance.
She organized monitoring which showed that some part of this
literature is not published, while the other part remains on
shelves of bookstores as it is not in demand of readers.
N. Zohrabian expressed an opinion that the parliament, in
particular, the NA Standing Committee of Science, Education,
Culture, Sport and Youth Issues (she is the deputy chairperson
of the indicated committee), is also to blame for this
situation. She called on her colleagues to be more attentive
during discussions of the state budget and to adopt a more
responsible attitude to state resources.
