INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION FOR ROBERT EMMIYAN AWARDS TO BE
HELD IN GYUMRI

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 4, NOYAN TAPAN. An international
competition for awards of the European record holder, long
jumper Robert Emmiyan will be held in the city of Gyumri on
September 7. 16 long jumpers from 10 countries have already
arrived in Armenia, and their number is likely to grow.
In 1987 R. Emmiyan set a European record with the result of
8.86 m. In the past 21 years no sportsman has broken his record.
It is noteworthy that Irving Saladino (Panama) won the gold
medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games after jumping 8.74 m.
Robert Emmiyan is a chief advisor to the president of
Quatar's National Olympic Committee. He is currently in Gyumri,
heading the work on preparation for the international
competition.
