BILBAO, SEPTEMBER 3, NOYAN TAPAN. The Grand Slam Chess Tournament began in Bilbao, Spain on September 2. In the first round Levon Aronian with white pieces was beaten by Magnus Carlsen of Norway. The games Anand (India) - Ivanchuk (Ukraine), and Rajabov (Azerbaijan) - Topalov (Bulgaria) ended in draws. The tournement has a 21st category. Three points are given for a win, a point is given for a draw. Levon Aronian plays against Veselin Topalov in the second round on September 3.
