Pastinfo The civil court of Yerevan, presided over by Judge Tigran Grigoryan, recently accepted the lawsuit of Narek Karapetyan against the Investigative Committee. 

 

 

It should be noted that on May 19, Alen Simonyan published a document, claiming it to be proof of Narek Karapetyan's citizenship of the Russian Federation. The Investigative Committee issued a statement on May 20, announcing that a criminal case had been initiated based on the report under the first part of Article 449 of the Criminal Code (concealing information that obstructs the acquisition or retention of the status of a public official). As of now, the Investigative Committee has not clarified whether a computer-technical or forensic examination has been appointed to determine the authenticity of the alleged document published by Alen Simonyan, whether it was created, for example, by artificial intelligence or simply forged. At the same time, it is not specified whether inquiries have been made to the competent authorities of the Russian Federation to ascertain whether Narek Karapetyan, who heads the "Strong Armenia" electoral list, is a citizen of the Russian Federation. Instead, denials have already come from Russia; Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin stated that Narek Karapetyan has never had Russian citizenship. Narek Karapetyan himself also denied this information, asserting that he has never been a citizen of any other country besides the Republic of Armenia. Meanwhile, Narek Karapetyan's lawyer Vardan Aloyan addressed a statement to the Investigative Committee, demanding the retraction of the defamation within 24 hours, otherwise a lawsuit would be filed.

 

Narek Karapetyan has filed a lawsuit against the Investigative Committee, demanding the retraction of the defamation and an apology. In addition to the demand for retraction and apology, a compensation claim has been made for a symbolic amount of "1 dram".

 

The court had returned the lawsuit for corrections, after which the claim was resubmitted and accepted for proceedings on June 15.
