The delegation of the Open AI international platform has arrived in Armenia.

The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia, Zhanna Andreasyan, today received a delegation from the international digital platform OpenAI, which has arrived in Armenia to present the ChatGPT Edu tool. This was reported by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports.

At the start of the new academic year, the educational, engineering, and research communities of Armenia will receive around 50,000 free subscriptions as a result of the collaboration between the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, OpenAI, and Firebird companies. Necessary preparatory work and training courses must be carried out by September to ensure the launch of the process at the beginning of the new academic year.

The meeting was attended by Harutyun Sargsyan, Deputy Chairman of the Committee of Higher Education and Science of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Alina Leon, responsible for OpenAI's collaboration with the Ministry, and other members of the delegation.

Welcoming the guests, Zhanna Andreasyan noted that in recent years, initiatives aimed at expanding the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and developing AI literacy have been consistently growing in the education system of Armenia.

According to the Minister, this partnership is of great importance for the educational system of Armenia, as a stable foundation for the education and application of artificial intelligence has already been established in the country. The educational programs "Generation of Artificial Intelligence" and "STEP.ai" are successfully being implemented in public schools, contributing to the development of learners' fundamental knowledge of AI, creative thinking, and technological skills, as well as the safe, responsible, and effective use of AI tools.

Zhanna Andreasyan emphasized that the "Generation of Artificial Intelligence" program, which is being implemented in collaboration with the FAST Foundation, has already recorded tangible results, gaining international recognition. Several participants of the program have achieved success and received awards in various international competitions, which attests to the effectiveness of the initiative.

Educational programs in artificial intelligence are also being introduced at the levels of secondary vocational and higher education; starting from September 2026, a new bachelor's educational program in the field of AI will also be implemented at Yerevan State University.

Addressing the prospects for the development of the sector, Zhanna Andreasyan noted that large-scale initiatives in artificial intelligence being implemented in Armenia are creating new opportunities for deepening cooperation between education, science, and the economy, contributing to the country's involvement in international technological processes. In her assessment, these developments significantly expand the capabilities of the educational system and create favorable conditions for the development of international connections.

The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports expressed confidence that the success of any technological initiative is determined by the development of human potential. In this regard, the development of the educational community's capabilities, professional retraining, and ongoing support are particularly important, as they will allow for the full utilization of artificial intelligence tools for the improvement of education quality.

Alina Leon, responsible for the collaboration with the OpenAI platform, emphasized the importance of partnership with Armenia, noting that the main directions of cooperation include promoting the responsible and safe application of artificial intelligence in the educational system, as well as developing the capabilities of educators and learners to effectively use technological tools.

Summarizing the meeting, Zhanna Andreasyan stated that the ChatGPT Edu platform, designed for educational institutions, will become an effective tool for both the higher education system for lecturers and students, and for the general education sector for teachers and high school students. She emphasized the importance of not only the technology's implementation but also the formation of a comprehensive policy around it, including regulations, risk management mechanisms, and principles of safe use.

It is also reported that in the initial phase of the initiative, during the 2026-2027 academic year, the accessibility of the ChatGPT Edu platform will be ensured with the funding from the Firebird company. After assessing the effectiveness of the program and its impact on educational outcomes, the possibility of state funding for the program will be considered to include it as a stable and long-term component in the national educational system.

Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed during the meeting.
