PLOVDIV, MAY 4, NOYAN TAPAN. The European Chess
Championship finished in Plovdiv (Bulgaria) on May 3.
Sergei Tivyakov (Netherlands) earned 8.5 out of 11 possible
points and became the champion. Sergei Movsisian (Slovakia) beat
Sergei Volkov (Russia) and took second place. Vladimir Hakobian
and Gabriel Sargsian earned 7.5 points each and shared 11-34th
positions with a number of other participants.
In women's tournament, the following chess players took 1st
to 3rd places: Katerina Lahno (Ukraine) - 8.5 out of 11 possible
points, Victoria Chmilite (Lithuania) - 8 points, and Anna
Ushenina (Ukraine) - 8 points. Lilit Mkrtchian earned 8 points
and took 5th position. Elina Danelian with 7.5 points shared
8-16th places.
The following Armenian chess players: Lilit Mkrtchian,
Elina Danelian, Gabriel Sargsian, and former Yerevan resident
Sergei Movsisian achieved the right to take part in the World
Cup.
