YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 20, NOYAN TAPAN. Data transfer from
Armenia to the outside world is currently done through the only
fiber optic trunk that passes through the territory of Georgia.
Harald Grytten, director general of the Armenian-Norwegian
Armenian Datacom Company (ADC, www.adc.am) told NT correspondent
that the high prices of data transfer services in Armenia are
conditioned by this monopoly.
According to him, the data transfer traffic prices are very
high in Armenia as compared with international prices. He said
that there is a project to construct a new Europe-Caucasus-Asia
fiber optic trunk. In his words, it has not yet been decided
whether the trunk will pass through Armenia or not, but there is
a hope that having a new connection to international networks
will help reduce the impact of Georgia's monopoly.
