REPUBLICAN PHILATELIC EXHIBITION TO OPEN IN YEREVAN

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 5, NOYAN TAPAN. A republican philatelic
exhibition "Armenia 2007" will open in Yerevan on October 9 on
the occasion of the 15th anniversary of issuing the first
postage stamp of the newly independent Armenia and the
International Post Day.
The chairman of the Union of Philatelists of Armenia (UPA)
Hovik Musalelian said at the October 5 press conference that the
purpose of the exhibition is unite stamp collectors of Armenia,
restore the best traditions of the past and revive interest in
this high culture.
According to him, collections of 32 members of the union
will be on display. Stamps (icluding those awarded gold, silver
and bronze medals at various international exhibitioins),
envelopes, postcards will be displayed. The RA ministry of
transport and communication, the RA ministry of culture, the
Yerevan municipality, Haypost CJSC, the Citadel business center,
the Armenian Academy of Philately and Dramatic Art, and the
Union of Philatelists of Armenia have instituted special awards
for the best collections.
On the initiative of the UPA, a number of other events will
be held on October 9-13, as well as several stamps:
"Tsitsernakaberd", "Sparrows" (dedicated to children) and a stamp
dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Matenadaran will be put
into circulation.
