WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP OF CHESS PLAYERS UNDER 20 STARTS IN
YEREVAN

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 3, NOYAN TAPAN. The opening ceremony of
the World Championship of chess players under 20 was held in the
Chess House after Tigran Petrosian on October 3. Levon Yolian,
the Deputy Chairman of the Republican Chess Federation, welcomed
the participants. The drawing of lots took place after the
opening ceremony. The tournament will be held according to the
Swiss contest rules, each of the participants will play 13
games.
150 chess players from 44 countries have arrived in
Yerevan. 12 boys and 10 girls will represent Armenia in the
championship.
Irrespective of the fact that the Armenian authorities have
guaranteed the security of the Azeri chess players, they have
not placed participation orders.
It should be mentioned that Yerevan is the only city that
receives the participants of the World Championship for the
fourth time.
