DEVELOPMENT DISORDERS AMONG ARMENIAN CHILDREN MAKE 12%

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 25, NOYAN TAPAN. A Center for Children's
Development and Rehabilitation was opened on September 25 in the
town of Armavir on the initiative of the Arabkir Medical
Complex-Institute of Children's and Teenagers' Health and the
Mission East organization. Ara Babloyan, the Chairman of the RA
National Assembly Standing Committee for Social, Healthcare, and
Environmental Issues, said that the most important task of the
state is to contribute to integration of disabled children to
society, protection of their interests. According to him, in the
whole world, as well as in Armenia children often have
development disorders that cause disability. According to the
studies conducted by the UN Children's Fund, such disorders make
12% among Armenian children.
It was also mentioned that the Center was opened within the
framework of the Healthy Start of Life program implemented by
the Mission East organization since 2006. The Armavir Center
will carry out full-value examination of children with special
needs and their further permanent rehabilitation.
A. Babloyan said that the Arabkir Medical Complex-Institute
of Children's and Teenagers' Health has created similar centers
in Spitak and Vanadzor, and a center of the kind will be also
opened in Gavar in the future. Besides, the restoration measures
of the summer camp building intended for such children will be
completed in October in Aparan.
