YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 14, NOYAN TAPAN. The 9th sitting of the Armenian-Russian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation took place in Yerevan on September 14. After the sitting, the co-chairman of the commission, Russian minister of transport Igor Levitin said that the commodity turnover between the two countries is increasing year by year. A considerable growth in investments has been registered as well: this year the amount of Russian investments will reach half a billion dollars. According to Igor Levitin, the main problem in Armenian-Russian economic cooperation is transport communication, even though some steps have already been taken in this direction: a ferry link was put into operation, although it does not yet function regularly. In order to solve this problem, cargo transportation should be increased by both sides, the RF transport minister noted. The Armenian co-chairman of the commission, prime minister of Armenia Serge Sargsian said that by the results of the 9th sitting of the commission, an agreement will be signed to enable one of the big Russian companies to operate in Armenia. He noted that larger deals will be concluded at the 10th sitting of the commission to be held in Russia. In the words of Serge Sargsian, despite the change in the Russian government, his official visit to Moscow remains in force. Attaching importance to this visit, the prime minister said that it will allow to establish personal links with Russia's new prime minister and government members.
