YEREVAN, AUGUST 8, NOYAN TAPAN. Entrants displayed an
average level of preparedness in the "Armenian History" this
year. This information was provided to a Noyan Tapan
correspondent by Edik Gevorgian, the Chairman of the Subject
Board. According to the data of August 5, 48 entrants received
between 18 to 20 points and 272 entrants received unsatisfactory
marks from this subject. Like previous years, entrants did not
receive 20 points from the "Armenian History" this year as well:
the highest mark was 18.5 points.
In the estimation of the Chairman of the Subject Board, the
written form of entrance examinations does not work any more.
According to Edik Gevorgian, both textbooks and lists of
questions need to be submitted to serious changes. In his
opinion, textbooks are overloaded with facts, there are also
such subjects, in which "the primary material is mixed with the
secondary one." "When compiling a textbook, age peculiarities of
pupils, as well as the pivotal problems of the Armenian history
should be taken into consideration," Edik Gevorgian mentioned
and added that these textbooks, in particular, should contribute
to the formation of a national ideology and patriotism among
teenagers.
Edik Gevorgian also declared that over 10 cases of cipher
use have been recorded so far. According to him, at present
entrants make use of modern, particularly auditory devices,
instead of traditional ciphers.
