An officer of the Azerbaijani Border Service was killed in an armed incident on the Azerbaijani-Iranian border.
Iran's Deputy Interior Minister for Security Affairs, Ali Abdollahi, said in an interview with state-run news agency IRNA that a limited engagement had occurred on the Iranian side of the Iran-Azerbaijan border between the two countries’ border guards.
“The incident occurred when a number of Azeri forces illegally entered Iranian soil and did not heed the Iranian border guards' order to stop," Abdollahi said, “Officials of both countries have been in touch since the shooting”.
“After this incident there have been some contacts and meetings between the two countries’ border guards, and officials in the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan have been busy reviewing the matter. The issue is being reviewed now through both countries’ diplomatic lobbies,” Abdollahi said.
