YEREVAN, JUNE 11, NOYAN TAPAN. During the June 11 meeting
with the speaker of the RA National Assembly Tigran Torosian,
Chief Executive Director of the Millennium Challenge Corporation
(MCC) John Danilovich expressed satisfaction over the process of
implementing the Millennium Challenge Program, noting that 7 mln
USD has been allocated so far, and an agreement on another 25
mln USD has been signed.
He said that despite the majority of democrates, the US
Congress approved this program of George Bush, which means the
program got the right of long-term operation. Proceeding from
this fact, J. Danilovich intends to raise the issue of extending
the legal privileges in the Congress, which will help increase
the efficiency of the Millennium Challenge Program. Under the
current agreement, the program is envisaged for a five-year
period, after which the program is considered completed and its
financing ends, irrespective of the process of work
implementation. Based on assessment of the program's
implementation efficiency, J. Danilovich is going to ask the
Congress for the right of signing a second - simultaneos
agreement during the implementation of the first agreement in
order to enhance the work's efficiency. According to him, at the
early stage, the agreements signed with various countries have a
relatively small budget (in case of Armenia - 236 mln USD), and
in the event of the program's successful implementation, this
sum may be increased.
According to the RA National Assembly PR Department, T.
Torosian expressed his satisfaction with the changes proposed by
John Danilovich within the framework of implementing the
Millennium Challenge Program. In his words, they will really
help with carrying out this program and will create new
opportunities.
