YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 28, NOYAN TAPAN. Armenia occupies the first place in the European region with the index of popularity of smoking among men which makes 63.7%. And Armenia occupies the third place after Moldova and Hungary with the index of death (22%) of smoking. As Khachatur Gasparian, a member of the Children's Psychiatrists and Psychologists Society mentioned at the November 28 press conference, about 2000 35-69 year old people using cigarettes die in the country every year. He mentioned that with the assistance of the Public Dialogue and Developments Center, the society has implemented an anti-cigarette program since June of this year. 5 mln drams (about 13 thousand U.S. dollars) grant was given to the program from the RA state budget. Kh.Gasparian mentioned that two talk shows were organized within the framework of the program. They were broadcast by H1 and Nor Alik (New Channel) TV companies. Three anti-cigarette video clips were shot, which were broadcast by the Public Television. A documentary film entitled "Cigarette: Everyday Narcotism" will also be broadcast by the same channel soon. It was also mentioned that a competition for the best scenario for a video clip on the anti-cigarette theme, a march and other events were also held.
