YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 7, NOYAN TAPAN. Bella Movsisian who was born on October 18 at Akhurian Mother and Child health center with the "diaphragm hernia" defect was operated on with the sponsorship of RA first lady Bella Kocharian. On November 7, Mrs Kocharian visited Surb Astvatsamayr (St Mother of God) Yerevan medical center to see the child who was operated on at the center. As center Director Nikolay Dallakian said, "diaphragm hernia" is a defect incompatible with life. "The baby would die unless she was operated on urgently," he said adding that the operation passed successfully. In N.Dallakian's words, no growth of number of children with congenital defects is noticed in Armenia, but there is another problem: if even a child has a small defect, the parents often renounce him/her. N.Dallakian said that 15-20 cases of congenital defects are registered at the Surb Astvatsamayr center per year.
