LIGNANO, SEPTEMBER 25, NOYAN TAPAN. Championship of veteran chess players (above 60 years old) was held on September 11-22 in the city of Lignano, Italy. 9 among 124 participants of the tournament held according to the Swiss contest rules were grand masters, 11 ones were international masters. 61-year old Alexan Manukian, the 2006 champion of the republic, lecturer of the Gyumri Polytechnical Institute represented Armenia. He got 6 points of 11 possible ones and took the 46th place. The eldest participants, 75-year legendary chess player Victor Korchnoi, a representative of Switzerland was recognized the championship winner. He held all the meetings without loss, got 9 points from 11 possible ones and took the 1st place.
