YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 19, NOYAN TAPAN. Over the past three
years, the Yerevan Leather Haberdashery Factory (YLHF) has
produced 3,000 units of production a month - wallets, as well
bags of various types - school, women's and travel bags. The
YLHF Director Zaruhi Shahparonian told NT correspondent about
it, noting that their production is mainly based on orders of
wholesale buyers.
According to her, the factory started operating in 1974,
and formerly its production was exported to Russia and other CIS
countries. However, the terms of the contracts signed with these
countries ended, and currently the factory's products are sold
only on the domestic market. The factory director said that the
local consumer has not shown an increased demand in their
production, because the main rivals, Chinese manufacturers,
import similar production into Armenia at lower prices. The high
cost price of their production is mainly due to the considerable
cost of raw material transportation: artificial leather is
imported from Turkey, and natural leather is purchased on the
domestic market.
Z. Shahparonian said that the YLHF plans to produce leather
jackets and open its own shop in Yerevan.
