“Edit Print” and Yerevan City Hall declare about the First Republican Competition of Reading

Within the frames of the “Yerevan-2012: International Capital of Book” event "Edit Print" and Yerevan City Hall are initiating the first Competition of Reading with the motto “Don’t waste time, read” which will be held from September 1 to February 19, 2012.
The competition will be held among pupils of 2-4 and 5-7 forms. It will be divided into two directions: Poetry and Prose. The competition will be held with 3 stages: qualifying, semifinal and final. Children, who will win the 3 prize places of each age group, will receive valuable gifts.

Qualifying stage
"Edit Print" Publishing House suggests 5 types of books for small and 4 types of books for old age groups. Children, who want to participate in the competition during summer, should read all the books for any group. Then note the number of the read books, name and surname, place of residence, phone number, school and classroom, the student should be able to write about his impression on a book. All these become the application of the pupil’s participation, which he will send to the committee of the competition by E-mail or postal service till September 20, 2011. Children can see a sample of application see on the website of "Edit Print" publishing house (www.editprint.am), in the part of new publications.
Then the Competition Committee will announce the final lists of participants by regions.
Semifinal
The semifinal stage will be held from October 1 to December 25 in each region. 3 participants from each age group from each region will be recognized as winners.
"Edit Print" Publishing House offers a list of poems for memorizing for each age group. At least three poems should be memorized from the lists.
The semi-final stage of the competition will take place with the following order:
A. Participant should retell the content of the work he chose
B. Then the committee will question the participant
C. The participant is to read loudly a passage from the group of books he selected. The passage is chosen by the committee
D. The participant should know 3 poems by heart and read
All questions and assignments are evaluated using the 5 unit scale.
Final
The final stage will be held in Yerevan, in February 2012.
3 winners are expected from each age group in the final stage. All the winners will receive valuable gifts. The final stage will be shown by TV and by other means of media.
