YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 20, NOYAN TAPAN. The Day of the Mother
Tongue will be celebrated for the first time in Armenia on
February 21. That holiday, proclaimed by the UN, was included in
the State calendar of Armenia in spring 2005 as a working day.
According to Hranush Hakobian, Chairman of NA Standing Committee
on Science, Education, Culture and Youth Issues, author
of the legislative initiative, the day of the Mother Tongue is
one of the brightest and most splendid holidays officially declared
before and after the independence of Armenia. According to her,
it is necessary not only to keep the mother tongue pure but also
to do everything possible that the February 21 really become a
holiday for the society and state.
