YEREVAN, MAY 6, NOYAN TAPAN. The exhibition that opened on May 6 at the National Gallery of Armenia is dedicated to the 60th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. More than 50 works of 20 painters - participants of the Great Patriotic War, painting, drawing and sculpture, were presented at the exhibition. According to Paravon Mirzoyan, Director of the National Gallery of Armenia, this exhibition is the tribute of respect to the generation that saved the mankind from Fascism. According to him, most of the pictures kept in the gallery depositories were created in the post-war period but on the days of the war the painters continued to create. "The subject of the Great Patriotic War was reflected in the creation of Armenian painters at all times as a considerable part in this victory belongs to our people, too," the National Gallery director mentioned. Paravon Mirzoyan said that 80 Armenian painters came back from the war but only 12 of them are alive today. The same day an exhibition dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Victory opened at the Painters' Union of Armenia. More than 100 works of 16 painters-participants of the war were presented at the exhibition. RA Ministry of Defence gave 20 thousand drams (40 dollars) to each of 16 painters and Ara Abrahamian, Chairman of the World Armenian Congress, gave 100 dollars to each of them.
