On December 10, 2010, REC Caucasus organizes the second Regional Stakeholder Meeting on project “Creation of Enabling Environment for Integrated Management of the Kura-Aras Trans-boundary River Basin” in Tbilisi, Georgia. Project is funded by the European Union and implemented by REC Caucasus in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia. The objectives of the project is to gain a consensus-based agreement between the South Caucasus countries, donor organizations and other concerned parties on further steps towards improved and creation of basis for sustainable cooperation and coordination through establishment of regional institutional mechanisms for major participating countries of the Caucasus, including governments, supporting control and coordination of projects (including donor ones) for integrated management of the Kura-Aras transboundary rivers basin, and adoption of Road Maps for assessment of progress in sustainable management of the Kura-Aras river basin with view to introduction of the EU Water Directives. The meeting is attended by representatives of governments of South Caucasus countries, EU Delegation and international organizations. The regional stakeholder working meeting is organized to present project final outputs, such as brief strategic document for Integrated Water Resources Management in Kura-Aras basin, including national and regional road maps for introduction and implementation of EU Water Framework Directives, as well as to consider final institutional setup option for basin management and discuss format for further cooperation between countries.
