YEREVAN, 10 JUNE, NOYAN TAPAN: On June 10, RA Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan received the newly appointed Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Armenia Ibrahim Abd al Rahman al-Meghaisibi (residence in Tehran) on the occasion of presenting a copy of his credentials. Congratulating the Ambassador on his appointment, E. Nalbandyan expressed hope that the ambassador will make efforts for further development of bilateral relations. Armenia’s Foreign Minister mentioned that further strengthening and expansion of relations with the Arab world is one of the primacies of Armenia’s foreign policy and that is why a decision has been taken to establish new diplomatic representations of Armenia in Arab countries. Expressing gratitude for the good wishes, Ambassador Al Rahman Al-Meghaisibi stressed that in Qatar there is special compassion toward Armenia and the Armenian people and he will do everything for development of the cooperation during his mission. The interlocutors discussed strengthening of political dialogue, expansion of the legal-contractual field, trade-commercial cooperation and steps to be taken for strengthening cultural exchange. According to a press release by the Department of Pres and Information at the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the conversation, Nalbandyan and Ibrahim Abd al Rahman al-Meghaisibi touched upon collaboration within international organizations and exchanged ideas on issues in the Near East and directions for solutions. Ibrahim Abd al Rahman al-Meghaisibi was born in Qatar in 1954. He has studied in the US and has a BA in Political Science. In 1998-2002 he was in Jedda (Saudi Arabia) as Qatar’s General Consul; in 2003-2005 he was Ambassador of Qatar to the Philippines; in 2008-2009 he was acting Deputy Head of the Department of Europe and American Countries at Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and has been the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Islamic Republic of Iran since December 2009.
