On July 6, Political Science Association of Armenia jointly with the Armenian Branch of Friedrich Ebert Foundation organized a round table on “Policy of social protection in the Armed Forces of Armenia”. Representatives from the Ministry of Defense, as well as experts in social policy, and representatives from NGOs attended the discussion. President of Political Science Association of Armenia, Doctor of Political Science Hayk Kotanjian and Program Coordinator of the Armenian Branch of Friedrich Ebert Foundation Liana Badalyan delivered opening speeches. Executive Director of Political Science Association of Armenia, PhD in History Beniamin Poghosyan chaired the discussion.

The main presentations were delivered by the Head of Finance Division of the Institute for National Strategic Studies of the Ministry of Defense, the INSS applicant, Captain Mher Parvanyan and Deputy Head of the Department of Defense Policy of the Ministry of Defense, lecturer at the Sociology Department of YSU, YSU applicant Alexander Avetisyan. The speakers identified the gaps in the field of social protection, their impact on the military and members of their families, as well as possible ways to fill those gaps. The significance of the fact was emphasized, that the increase of the level of social protection of the military is of great importance for the formation of the society’s proper attitude towards the military.

During the lively discussion after the presentations, the participants expressed their positions on the ways of solving existing problems in the field. Summing up the discussion, Executive Director of Political Science Association of Armenia Beniamin Poghosyan, once again emphasizing the importance of the issue, stated that Political Science Association of Armenia in the future will also pay attention to the issues of social protection of the military, presenting professional evaluations.
