On June 8, 2018 in the Yerevan Cycle Track, the Embassy of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Armenia jointly with the assistance of the Cycling Federation of Armenia, organized a bicycle tournament dedicated to the World Bicycle Day celebrated for the first time on June 3.
The diplomats of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Armenia, employees of the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, members of the Armenian Cycling Federation, athletes and coaches took part in the competition. The tournament was covered by Armenian media.
At the opening ceremony of the tournament, the importance of the UN General Assembly Resolution of establishing June 3 as the World Bicycle Day initiated by the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was emphasized, as well as the leading role of Turkmenistan in promoting cycling was highlighted.
The participants of the sport event were informed about the state policy of Turkmenistan in the sphere of sports. The Resolution on announcing the World Bicycle Day on June 3 testifies the immense support of the world community for Turkmenistan's efforts to develop a mass health-improving movement, to develop a culture of cycling, international cooperation in the field of sports and ecology. It was also emphasized that in 2017, the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, where 62 countries took part, were held with great success in 2017, and this year the International Rally "Amul-Khazar 2018", dedicated to the motto of this year "Turkmenistan is the heart of the Great Silk Road" is planned to be held.
The participants were also acquainted about Turkmenistan's highest achievements in the development of sports, mass physical culture and popularization of cycling, which demonstrates the importance of social and environmental components in the strategy of national development. At the same time the huge efforts of the Turkmen leader - an active supporter of sports and a healthy lifestyle were emphasized, who was the initiator of mass bicycle runs, in which the head of the state took personal participation.
The announcement of the World Bicycle Day on June 3 is a testament to the unanimous recognition of the initiatives of the Turkmen state aimed at strengthening peace, friendship and fruitful cooperation, which serves as another vivid proof of the growing international authority of Turkmenistan and its devotion to the principles of peace, humanism and effective interaction.
During the sports event races for short and long distances took place, and along with the members of the diplomatic corps of Armenia, young racers demonstrated their skills too. On behalf of the Embassy of Turkmenistan all the participants of the bike ride were awarded with Turkmen souvenirs, and the winners of the tournament, who took the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places were awarded with valuable prizes.
