Gagik Beglarian appointed Yerevan Mayor

YEREVAN, MARCH 5, NOYAN TAPAN. Under RA President Serzh Sargsyan's March 4 decree Gagik Beglarian was appointed Yerevan Mayor. According to the RA President's Press Office, under another decree of the same day, Yervand Zakharian was relieved of the post of Yerevan Mayor and was appointed RA President's Adviser. Gagik Beglarian was born in 1964 in Yerevan. In 1971-78 he went to M. Nalbandian secondary school N 33. In 1978-81 he studied and finished the Physics and Mathematics School attached to Yerevan State University. In 1981-85 he studied and graduated from Yerevan Institute of People's Economy with economist's qualification. In 1985-86 he served in the Soviet army. In 1993 he was elected deputy of Republic of Armenia Supreme Council of first convocation. In 2002 he was elected Kentron community prefect. He was reelected in 2005 and on September 28, 2008. He is a member of the Republican Party of Armenia. In 2004 he maintained candidate's thesis on the subject Prefecture Government Social Problems, received the title of a candidate of sociological sciences. He is the the Honorary Chairman of the Narek intellectuals club of Kentron community. He is married, has two children.
