An event dedicated to Motherhood and Beauty Day entitled “Women are the Heart and Soul of Our Programs” was held at Lovers’ Park on April 7. The event was organized by Oxfam GB Armenia. The main purpose of the event was to present women who are making a contribution to gender equality and the promotion of their social, civil and economic rights, especially in the distant rural communities. The main emphasis of Oxfam Armenia’s programs is on the principle of gender equality. The beneficiary women shared stories about the impact of Oxfam GB Armenia’s programs and the changes in the lives of women living in the beneficiary communities. This was followed by an exhibition entitled “Women of Three Generations” showcasing handmade works by representatives of Oxfam GB Armenia’s beneficiary communities and photos taken by residents of the rural communities. Attending the event was British Ambassador to Armenia Charles Lonsdale. “No government can ignore the opinion of over 50 percent of the country’s population. We must eliminate family violence, the pressures against women and the stereotype of their inequal rights,” said Charles Lonsdale and mentioned that women, especially those in the rural communities, should not only feel useful at home. According to the Ambassador, they should have a huge role and significance in public and political life as well.
