The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Zhanna Andreasian, visited the State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports of Armenia (HFSPI) to familiarize herself with the renovation works carried out.  

 

Accompanied by the rector of HFSPI, Tigran Simonian, the minister toured the wrestling, judo, weightlifting, and sports gymnastics halls, where restoration and modernization works have been carried out. The conditions created were presented, as well as the possibilities for organizing the sports process. Zhanna Andreasian emphasized the continuous modernization of sports infrastructure, noting that modern and safe conditions are a crucial prerequisite for the effective preparation of athletes, ensuring competitive results, and promoting interest in sports among young people.

 

The minister also visited the shooting range of HFSPI, where the prospects for the development of sports shooting in schools were discussed. The importance of creating an appropriate environment in schools, as well as including necessary components in physical education programs, was emphasized, particularly highlighting the retraining of physical education teachers. The parties expressed their willingness to cooperate in creating the necessary conditions, developing the material and technical base, and retraining specialists.

 

Next, Zhanna Andreasian visited the volleyball gym, where a professional sports floor has been installed. Emphasizing the development of team sports, the minister noted that more than 5,000 children participated in the "School Volleyball League," organized for the first time last year, and an increase in participation is expected this year. The issue of training specialists in the field of physical culture and sports was also discussed, particularly the need to fill vacant positions for physical education teachers in schools with qualified personnel. Zhanna Andreasian informed that it is planned to raise the salary of teachers who participated in the second round of voluntary certification and achieved positive results to 300,000 drams, and to calculate the 30, 40, and 50 percent bonuses based on this salary rate, contributing to the improvement of the teachers' remuneration system.

 

The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports also visited the "Sport Lab" research center of HFSPI, where research is conducted in the fields of sports physiology, biomechanics, and rehabilitation science. The center is also equipped with psycho-physiological testing equipment necessary for the assessment process of athletes. The functions of the center include the implementation of research programs, as well as the assessment of the functional state of athletes from various clubs and federations.

 

During the discussion, it was emphasized that the sports development policy should be based on modern scientific data.

 

The minister highlighted the importance of scientific research and noted that state support could be provided within the framework of targeted programs in case of relevant program applications.

 

"We need to have research data that will allow us to review the existing standards in a justified manner. Sports is also a science, and it is very important that universities present scientific proposals aimed at the development of the field," said Zhanna Andreasian.

 

As part of the visit, the organization of the international conference "Sports for Peace and Health" was also addressed, which was dedicated to the 80th anniversary of HFSPI last year and will now be held annually. It was noted that the conference aims to highlight the issues in the field and formulate scientifically justified proposals for improving the sports development policy.
