YEREVAN, OCTOBER 6, NOYAN TAPAN. The collection "The
Ephemeral and the Eternal," the presentation of which took place
on October 6 at the Armenian Union of Writers, includes Vahagn
Davtian's poems, last diary notes and reflections, as well as
memoirs of contemporaries about him. The book was compiled and
edited by literary critic Grigor Janikian and reciter Silva
Yuzbashian.
Levon Ananian, Chairman of the Armenian Union of Writers,
said that this collection is an excellent monument to V.Davtian
- poet, brilliant translator, editor, national and public
figure. In his words, this collection with its depth and
contents advantageously differs from memoirs published in the
recent years. L.Ananian also said that though 10 years have
passed since the poet's death, publication of his unpublished
works by separate books continues. This, in his words, is
evidence that "Vahagn Davtian's creation was appreciated both in
his lifetime and after his death."
In addition to other poets, the opinion of one of the great
figures of Armenian poetry, Avetik Isahakian, about V.Davtian
who was still young at that time, is cited in the collection.
The great master reading V.Davtian's poems, wrote: "V.Davtian is
a talented poet, his poems have the depth of our medieval songs
and magnificence of the Western Armenian poetry, his poetical
culture is high, technics is solid, has a smell of earth, but at
the same time is etheral."
To recap, V.Davtian's 85th anniversary will be solemnly
marked in 2007.
