YEREVAN, November 30 (Noyan Tapan). On November 30, a
jubilee concert dedicated to the 20th anniversary of "Alan
Hovhannes" chamber ensemble was held. The ensemble founded in
1984 in the school after Avet Gabrielian was at first named
Chamber Ensemble of Teachers. In the future, in 2002, it was
renamed after American Armenian composer Alan Hovhannes.
Meruzhan Simonian, Art Director and conductor of the ensemble,
mentioned during the November 30 press conference that Alan
Hovhannes is one of the famous composers of 20th century whose
works are performed by all well-known ensembles of the world.
According to M.Simonian, the activity of the ensemble is to
some extent consonant to the composer's creation, especially in
the issue of perception and interpretation of modern music.
At present the repertoire of the ensemble includes more than 50
works of modern Armenian composers. The ensemble is the first
performer of 30 of these works.
M.Simonian said that Hinaco Hovhannes, the wife of Alan
Hovhannes, a Japanese by nationality, was also invited to the
concert dedicated to the 20th anniversary but she wasn't able to
come to Armenia because of poor health. The composer's close
freind, American pianist Martin Berkovski, came to the concert
instead of her. He brought the unique notes of late composer,
his private letters and articles, which will be kept in the
Museum of Art and Literature after Yeghishe Charents.
